Even though it feels like only yesterday that I opened my doors, when you consider the following “fun facts” you’ll realize that time has certainly passed by.

  • The year-end close of the Dow Jones Industrial was 3,834
  • Interest rates were 8.5%
  • Average cost of a new home was $119,050
  • Average cost of a new car $12,350
  • Cost of a gallon of gas $1.09
  • Cost of a first class stamp .29 cents
  • A loaf of bread was $1.59 and a dozen eggs .86 cents
  • The average movie ticket was $4.08 and you saw Forest Gump, The Lion King, Shawshank, Pulp Fiction and Speed
  • Top musicians were Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart (and still my favorite), Sting, Pearl Jam, and the Beastie Boys
  • TV Shows you were watching: Friends, Law & Order, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Frasier, NYPD Blue, and the X-Files
  • Famous people born in 1994: Dakota Fanning, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, and Tallulah Belle Willis
  • 550,308 small businesses started up and in 2014 and in 2011, sadly 24.6% were still in business.

January 1994 – On January 17th, the Northridge CA earthquake hit with a magnitude of 6.7

February 1994 – The 1994 Winter Olympics were held in Lillehammer

March 1994 – Apple Computer releases the first Macintosh computer using the new PowerPC Microprocessors. This is considered to be a major leap in the personal computer as well as for Macintosh

March 1994 – Schindler’s List wins the Oscar for Best Picture

May 1994 – The Chunnel opens connecting England and France.

June 1994 – Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found dead in Brentwood which lead to the trial of the century where everyone was glued to their TV sets

August 1994 – Major League Baseball players go on strike causing the elimination of the World Series

September 1994 – The long-running sitcom Friends premieres

December 1994 – The first version of web browser Netscape Navigator is released
