MAC Tip: Mac OS X Dock
Posted on 04. Nov, 2009 by Linda in MAC Tip
The Mac Dock is that strip of icons located at the bottom of your computer screen. The Dock is a place where you store the icons for the applications that you use frequently. Did you know that you can move the Dock to the left or right side and you can even make it smaller or larger. The Dock cannot be moved to the top though. If you have an icon on the dock that you do not use, you can just drag it up to remove it. Note that you are not deleting the program, just deleting it from your dock.
How to adjust your system preferences for the dock:
- Open up System Preferences (icon in the dock with the gears)
- Click on dock located in the Personal section
- To adjust the size of the icons, drag the slider to either left for smaller or right for larger icons
- Magnification – drag the slider toward “max” to enlarge the icon when the pointer is over them
- Minimize using – choose the effect used when you minimize a window – default is scale effect.
- To move your dock to the left or right, you do this through the Position on Screen area
- Animate opening applications – select this checkbox to make the icons bounce when you open an application
- Automatically hide and show the Dock – select this to hide the dock when you are not using it. If you want to see the dock, move the pointer to the bottom or side of the screen to view it.
